The TOOTHMAN with advise and a link to a "Brighter" Future
Yes, dental care can be expensive. However, prioritizing all kinds of expenses can help people determine where their financial resources may be best spent. This strategy can be applied to oral procedures, too. While everyone has their own unique needs, people may consider the top three treatments that can help improve their smiles.
1. Dental Checkups and Cleanings: They should be part of the annual health routine for every parent and child. While some people may think that they can pass on their six month exams, it is possible that more than just cavities are lurking in their mouths. During routine exams, dentists screen their patients for oral cancer. They can detect unusual sores, tissue discoloration or sensitive areas within your mouth. If a professional does spot a suspicious-looking abnormality, they may use a simple brush test to collect sample cells that will be screened for cancer in a laboratory.
2. Fill Your Cavities: Many adults think that cavities are only common among kids, but older individuals can develop cavities due to the recession of gums caused by aging. Not only are dental caries unsightly, but they can potentially result in tooth loss. To help avoid the early need for dentures, individuals should schedule appointments to receive fillings. The ADA notes that patients should also have their dentist evaluate existing fillings, since over time, their edges may weaken and act as a reservoir for bacteria.
3. In-Office Whitening Treatments: To complete your dental overhaul, many dentists offer in-office whitening treatments to improve the appearance of teeth. The ADA refers to this procedure as "chair side bleaching," and notes that several visits lasting between 30 and 60 minutes are typically required. After applying a rubber shield to your gums, a dentist will smooth the whitening agent onto the surface of teeth. On its website, the association explains that lasers are sometimes used to boost the efficacy of brightening gels.
Visiting the dentist to receive these services may seem like common sense, but the ADA recently reported the first dental spending decline among Americans in nearly 50 years.
Avoiding some of these treatments may appear to be a good money-saving option, but repair work later in life will likely end up costing more.

I am 90 years old, and due to some unfornutate circumstanses I was unable to take do any dental work for over 3 years. Dental plan was recomended to me by a friend of my grand daughters. Being blind I had my daughter look into it for me. We both ended up joining and I am very glad I did. The dentist we picked was welcoming, and did not judge me by my neglect of dental care for those three years. Oh and I also have all my own teeth, with only 2 root canals and caps. With the dental plan I was able to afford to do everything that needed to be done. I had a root canal and a cap, It was half of what I would have had to pay, so that in itself has more than paid for my dental plan. PS my Dad put this together himself, I am just the computer person

Cosmetic Dental Procedures from Discount Dental Plans
Discount Dental Plans are Easy to Use Print your membership card online right away Make an appointment with a participating dentist Present your card & enjoy on-the-spot discounts Discount Dental Plans are More Affordable Dental insurance premiums can cost you anywhere from $225 to $396 per year. Discount dental plans start at only $79.95 per year for individuals and $129.95 per year for families. How It Works Discount dental plans are not dental insurance plans but dental discount programs instead. Participating dentists have agreed to accept a discounted fee from discount dental plan members as payment-in-full for dental services performed. There are a variety of other key differences between discount dental plans and dental insurance plans. For example, the majority of dental insurance policies have annual maximums that are typically around $1000 to $1500. So if you need dental care treatments that cost more than $1000 like braces, root canals, crowns, oral surgery or dentures, you will have to pay the difference with a dental insurance plan. Alternatively, since discount dental plans do not have annual limits, you can use your plan as often as needed. Plus, our plans may even be used to reduce your out-of-pocket dental care costs once you have reached the annual maximum on your dental insurance plan.Even if you already have dental insurance, the discounts offered by our discount dental plans may be used after your dental insurance plan maximum has been reached for even more savings on your dental care. Please consult with a participating dentist or dental care specialist before beginning treatment. Select discount dental plans even offer significant discounts on cosmetic dental procedures, services like teeth whitening, bonding and veneers, and "root canal procedures". Additionally, since discount dental plans activate within 3 business days and do not have any health restrictions, you won’t need to wait 6 to 18 months to receive the dental care you need. Discount dental plans are an affordable, easy-to-use and hassle-free solution for anyone looking for dental care savings. |

Lack of dental insurance can take a bite out of your budget
Jenn Stoll, vice president of marketing for Dentalplans.com, says membership fees start at $79.95 a year, with discounts of 10 percent to 60 percent on services. Stoll says one advantage of a dental discount plan is there’s no annual cap on benefits and no waiting period.
"Some dental insurance programs have waiting periods of up to 18 months for (major services). Our plans typically activate in three days, and you could then walk in and even get a root canal," Stoll says
